“Accounting goof shortchanges Michigan college president $11,000

TRAVERSE CITY — Officials say an accounting mistake shortchanged the salary and benefits of Northwestern Michigan College’s president by more than $11,000 since 2013.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports  a memo says Tim Nelson’s salary was incorrectly calculated to increase to $181,731 in 2013 but should have been set at $182,740. Board Secretary K. Ross Childs says the error was recently picked up.

Terms of Nelson’s contract would have paid him an additional $8,835 in base salary from 2013-2015 and about $2,200 more in unused vacation, retirement plan funding and deferred compensation. The error likely will be fixed without action from the school’s board of trustees.”
